ISDN
The Council for Access Technologies was formerly known as the National ISDN Council (NIC). Under that name, the group worked to
ensure the deployment of the Integrated Services Digital Network in North America was successful. Some NIC accomplishments are
highlighted below.
- The NIC published generic requirements so a wide range of features would operate consistently
- The NIC published Customer Premises Equipment guidelines so that end-users could obtain ISDN CPE from a variety of suppliers
- The NIC helped define ISDN Ordering Codes which simplified the ISDN service activation process for both end-users and service providers
Since ISDN services are now mature, they comprise only a small part of the CAT's current activities. However, you can still access
the ISDN material that was produced. The CAT has kept the National ISDN Council web site active to serve as a repository of this
information.
